It's officially football season, and that means let the tailgating parties begin. Tailgating has been a long-time tradition that brings friends, families, and football fans together for delicious meals and drinks before the sporting event starts. We've put together a list of 8 essential rules to follow if you are attending a football tailgate!
- At the college-level games, you expect to see large crowds of hundreds or thousands of people. If you're driving around the tailgating lot, please be very attentive to your surroundings. There are going to be a ton of pedestrians.
- It's hard to take the drinking out from a football game. We highly encourage you to drink responsibly. Please plan to have a designated driver or use Uber or Lyft to get you where you need to be safe.
- Whether you love to take pictures or you love to blare music, you'll need a powered device to do so. Please pack portable chargers with you to avoid having a dead device before the game even begins.
- There's a whole other set of rules to know about if you plan to cook or grill at the tailgating lot. If you brought a grill with you, please remember the basics of fire safety. You're surrounded by gasoline-powered vehicles, so a fire can start at any second if you aren't careful. Please make sure you have a way to extinguish the fire just in case one breaks out. Also, do not allow any small children within a certain distance from the grill.
- Go for plastic cans and bottles over glass bottles. Please refrain from using glass-anything, as it can easily break and shatter on the ground. Glass shards can be hazardous for people, and they can even puncture tires.
- Lastly, we urge you not to leave any expensive personal belongings inside your vehicle during the game. At larger events, theft is a possible problem to watch out for.
